JOB TITLE:  Animal Care Technician

LOCATION:  Rochester, MN

REPORTS TO: Production Manager


Cytotheryx, an innovative biotech company focused on production of primary human hepatocytes in large animal models, is seeking a highly motivated Animal Care Technician. This position will report to the Production Manager and be responsible for the humane treatment of swine raised for the bio-tech industry. The candidate should have a general knowledge of swine and production. Excellent organization, communication skills, and attention to detail are required.         


  • Provide daily care for animals including feeding, cleaning, breeding, farrowing, weaning and observation
  • Collect/enter/report data while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and data integrity
  • Assist with surgical procedures and sample collection; prepare tissue, blood and other specimens for routine testing; assist veterinarians with animal health
  • Maintain facilities
  • Maintain proper personal protective equipment requirements and be diligent regarding proper PPE use of co-workers and guests
  • Manage logistics including feed delivery and waste
  • Assist Management in meeting Regulatory Compliance
  • Observe areas for quality improvement
  • Other duties as indicated


  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; A.A. or greater in Animal Science preferred, but not required
  • Understanding of animal welfare
  • Solid understanding of swine husbandry

  • Prolonged standing
  • Moderate physical exertion during facility maintenance and transportation/handling of animals
  • Carrying, handling, lifting, and reaching for objects up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to heat, noise, large animals, and chemicals, within safe limits
  • Breathing through face mask/respirators as conditions demand
